Grant funding now available to support local suicide prevention action

Far North Queensland communities seeking to tackle suicide prevention now have the opportunity to apply for up to $10,000 in small grant funding to support their innovative and community-driven projects.

Funding will aim to support community-led suicide prevention projects across the region that contribute to the outcomes and priorities of the Cairns & Hinterland and Torres & Cape Suicide Prevention Community Action Plans (SPCAPs).

Applications are open now and initial expressions of interest (EOIs) will close at midnight (AEST) on Sunday 30th April 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to provide additional detail about their proposed project. Funding decisions will be finalised in late-May 2023.

Projects will need to demonstrate how they meet the following selection criteria:

  • addresses an identified need relating to suicide prevention in the community

  • proposes an effective response to the identified need

  • offers sustainability

  • is delivered by an organisation with demonstrated capability and capacity.

Community organisations are encouraged to consult with key people, groups, and organisations who have a role to play in suicide prevention in their community. Additionally, applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Black Dog Institute’s LifeSpan Framework, which outlines an evidence-based, systems approach to suicide prevention action.

Watch the short video below to hear our team introducing the funding opportunity and how it can help local communities take action to prevent and reduce the impact of suicide:

The small grants program is part of the Life Promotion and Suicide Prevention Far North Queensland (FNQ) initiative, which is supported by funding from the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network and is coordinated by Beacon Strategies.
