Informed by the LifeSpan Framework and adopting a Collective Impact approach, the purpose of the SPCAP initiative is to create fresh and interconnected approaches to suicide prevention.

Our Team

Our project team is managed by Gill Townsend, Nerelle Nicol and Stephanie Coleman, all based in Cairns. They are part of the wider team from Beacon Strategies, a health consultancy located in Brisbane.

Gill Townsend

Gill believes that social work is both a creative art and a political activity. Gill’s career has included roles as a disability advocate, co-ordinator of a women’s refuge and in both the Human Rights and Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commission. She has spent the last 15 years in the mental health arena with a particular focus on person-led service delivery and design.

Nerelle Nicol

Nerelle has worked extensively in the public and community sector, in administration or by elected representation. She’s held appointments across all tiers of government and as an Independent Consultant, she has been subcontracted to work on a range of research, reform, engagement and business projects across Far North Queensland.

Stephanie Coleman

Stephanie excels in leveraging her expertise to design and implement strategies that address systemic challenges and improve support systems for vulnerable people and communities. She is known for her commitment to promoting social inclusion and empowerment, advocating for human rights and social justice principles. Her approach combines creativity with a strong analytical mindset, ensuring her work not only meets objectives but also creates lasting impacts.
