About the SPCAP

Life Promotion & Suicide Prevention

Informed by the LifeSpan Framework and adopting a Collective Impact approach, the purpose of the SPCAP initiative is to create fresh and interconnected approaches to suicide prevention.

Our SPCAP ‘Backbone’ Team

Our project team is managed by Gill Townsend, Nerelle Nicol and Stephanie Coleman who are based in Cairns. They are part of the wider team from Beacon Strategies, a health consultancy located in Brisbane.

We engaged with IndigeDesignLab to come up with a design that would represent the SPCAP project.

IndigeDesignLab is a partnership between NorthSite and Aboriginal design agency ingeous studios led by Aboriginal designer and digital creative Leigh Harris and assisted by Jamaylya Ballangarry-Kearins. The primary aim of IndigeDesignLabs is to grow the skills and experience of young Indigenous creatives in the design and technology industries of today through real-world opportunities building and experiences.

The Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan brandmark and design elements use stylised modern design to depict the intent of the Community Action Plan. The primary brand element is a stylised symbol of a hand gesture used throughout the region and is a unique identifier to asking someone How You or WhichWay? Simply asking if someone is OK or what’s happening is an important step in sharing if someone is unwell.

The brandmark introduces friends, families and community through stylised simple background elements in the brandmark and throughout the layout of the plan and associated collateral to depict connection and how we all need to reach out when people are in need.
